A privilege to meet Joe Humphreys

I attended a casting seminar in the spring of 2007  and had the privilege to meet Joe Humphreys. Joe is a gentleman extraordinarie,
besides being an angling expert and author. He took over the three course fly fishing series taught at Penn State University
from George Harvey in 1972. Joe is now retired from that position and holds seminars around the country sharing his
expertise. I was especially impressed with Joe's passion to be out, enjoying his surroundings and having as much fun doing
that as catching, or as he says, "romancing trout".

Joe is under contract with the Orvis company and cannot endorse my fly rods, however he did give me permission to use
the photograph below, of the two of us. He enjoyed casting one of my rods and told me that I should be very proud of the
craftsmanship as well as the performance of this 7 foot 4 weight bamboo rod. Needless to say, I was very proud.

The rods I build always get comments like this one from one of my customers......

Scott
Bruce surprised me today with the 4/5 wt that you built for me as a gift of appreciation.  For the first time in my life I was simply speachless!  The rod is truely a thing of beauty!  I am planning to use it in the spring when I can get to the Yak without icing my guides!

I simply want you to know that I appreciate all of the effort and dedication that must have gone into making a rod of this quality.  It is really a piece of art!

Very truly yours,

Jim Straka

An exceptional student of mine

Terry Grills from PA did a fantastic job on this 7' 0" 4 wt. The only thing he liked better than the finished rod was the way it could cast. He even made extra time here to build an 8'0" 5 wt. blank that he will finish at home.

You could build a fine fly rod like his by attending one of my private classes. I will lead you through every step so that you can leave with a bamboo fly rod that you can be proud to own.

I think Terry would agree that you get special attention here that you will not find anywhere else.

Testimonials are fine, but this one means something special to me. He wrote the above in
a copy of The Angler's Bamboo that his wife sent to me
